In the pages of Chevrolet Pickups, you'll find a legendary tale of how Chevrolet's line of trucks evolved from cars with beds...to the sophisticated luxurious trucks of modern times. Mueller's text includes the rise of the Depression-era trucks that made Chevrolet the number one manufacturer of light pickups, and Chevy's 30-year run in that top spot. Mueller explains how the leaders and engineers at Chevrolet made the company's truck line such a dominant force... and goes in-depth on many specific models that had enormous impact on the pickup truck industry. "The complete history of Chevrolet trucks is covered, with sidetrips that shed light on the GMC counterparts, competitive brands, and the ElCamino and Corvair pickups." Packed with photographs of beautifully restored pickup trucks, "Chevrolet Pickups tells the history of one of the (20th) century's greatest accomplishments."

4Chevrolet Truck book  Jan 29, 2010
I thought that this was a very good book that covers all years, good, bad, and yes, even ugly. The pictures were good and the text very informative. It even has a few pages about the Blazer. It talks a lot about the old trucks, but doesnt cover much about newer ones, which I thought should be covered a little more. I learned a lot from the book, like how Chevy outsold Ford for 30 years.

5Chevrolet Pickups  Dec 29, 2009
Shows pickups from 1918 to 70's. Beautiful and plentiful pictures as nice as cover picture.

My husband loves this book and has been sharing it with all his friends. I was surprised at how much he liked it. I am glad it was such a big hit for him.

4Great pictures, interesting read, thin later model content  Jul 11, 2006
This book is very thorough in the history of General Motors pickups from the beginning through approx 1972.

This book is full of beautiful pictures that make the purchase price worthwhile without any of the accompanying stories.

Pickup trucks moved into the mainstream in the later part of the 1960s and came full force in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I was very disappointed with the lack of information from 1973-present. The C/K10 (73-87) trucks are quickly becoming collector items and I was looking for additional information regarding these years. The GMT400 (88-98) is hardly mentioned, and the GMT800 (99-07) isn't discussed at all, aside from a picture from a GM press release. The lack of information on the newer trucks is largely unforgivable given the publish date of 2002. I would have chopped 2 stars from the review but the excellent pictures moderated my disappointment.

There are also some laughably wild predictions about the future of trucks and SUVs (keep in mind circa 2002).

MORAL: Only buy if you want pictures and history of anything pre-1973.

Mike Mueller's Chevrolet Pickups is an "reader engaging" visual and informational tour, filled with a superbly presented color photographs showcasing the classic Chevrolet pickup truck -- four-wheel vehicles that were especially popular during the Depression era, when Chevrolet was the number one manufacturer of light pickups. A complete history of Chevrolet trucks (including the 1967 to 1972 models and down to the modern day), Chevrolet Pickups also reveals just how they fared in competition against other brands; reveals the stories behind the scenes; and offers a wealth of fascinating trivia, making Chevrolet Pickups a superb browsing book for automotive history and trivia fans.
