5the real thing for real cowboys  Dec 29, 2003
I gave a copy as a gift and now everybody in my family wants one. My grandfather recognized the words to old songs he remembered his own father singing to him when he was a boy as they rode together on horseback in northern Mexico. My grandmother recognized other ballads she remembered learning for the first time as a grade-schooler in eastern Arizona.

5Cowboy Poetry  May 08, 2002
I thought the introduction was very informative and prepared you for the contents of the book. I did not realize the word expressions from that time frame, it was very enjoyable and entertaining. This is a book to keep and hand down to next generations. The cowboy poetry is a rare look into the past and needs to be kept alive. I was impressed with the bibliography.
