Not only did she work at Def Jam and Capitol Records but she shares a daughter with hip-hop superstar Nas -- a relationship made extremely public through Nas's celebrity status, rap lyrics, and the ever-present media. Now, in It's No Secret, a strong, resilient Carmen bares all, telling her side of the story and leaving no detail unturned -- with the true candor and raw emotion of someone who has been there, done that, and survived. From a clandestine relationship with Nas's biggest rival, Jay-Z, that stirred up the biggest feud in hip-hop history, to seeing her reputation in tatters and a once loving relationship with Nas fall apart, Carmen depicts her trying journey to become the strong woman and mother she is today. After years of turmoil that included drugs, sex, greed, and violence -- and abandoning what she had always prized above all, her freedom -- Carmen took a stand, focusing on herself. After years of pursuit by the media, Carmen sets the record straight in It's No Secret -- and has no regrets. | | | |

awful Sep 11, 2009 This is possibly THE worst book I've ever read. Pointless. About as interesting and dramatic as listening to a refrigerator hum.
thumbs down Sep 05, 2009 I think Carmen's book makes her look bad...She sleeps with best friends & enemies, has an encounter with her boss's lover...cheats on her long term boyfriend repeatedly, has several abortions an so on. I was expecting more... if she had not slept with 3 celebrities the book would have been just another mad black woman. If you like Nas,Jay-Z or Allen Iverson you will probably read the book out of curiousity but it only tells things from her point of view so I say thumbs down.
Tell-Tale Drama Aug 12, 2009 I finally read this book (bargain special!) and realized very quickly that I hadn't missed out on anything. I would have liked for this book to take me inside the hip-hop world, or at least inside of Nas's world. But this was not accomplished because this book is really about Carmen Bryan and what she was going through. Not much, I can tell you that. I got that she's the mother of Destiny, her child with Nas. and I got that she did a lot of moving around and sleeping around. She did a lot of partying. She lived off of Nas's money (when he had it), she drank and smoked.
To her credit, she did drop names and gave up some explicit details. I would have liked to know more about what exactly Carmen did for a living during the brief time that she worked and more about what went on in the industry, business-wise.
But, of course, it wasn't that type of book.
Good read ! Jun 09, 2009 It was a very interesting book and i read the whole book in a week . highly recommened.
not what i expected Jun 01, 2009 This book was all over the place and she should be ashamed that this will be out there for her kids to read!
